Scientist, writer & illustrator.
Science communication is paramount to scientific understanding. I enjoy creating content that is easily accessible to a broad audience and find the ability to communicate science in a transparent and enjoyable way crucial to scientific dissemination. I strive to enrich the understanding of science while also making it entertaining and easily approachable.
I received my PhD in Microbiology & Immunology at the University of North Carolina where I investigated how genetics influence the immune response to viral disease. Beyond my time at the bench, I have enjoyed writing, illustrating, and editing for Nature Careers, Natural History Magazine, UNC’s graduate student-run blog The Pipettepen, and the North Carolina-based science outreach blog NC DNA Day. I have also served as chair for the ComSciCon-Triangle chapter. Currently, I am an intern for the Science Communicators of North Carolina and a postdoctoral researcher at UNC. As I continue my journey as a science communicator, I am eager to hone my storytelling skills and connect with like-minded professionals. Find me on LinkedIn!
When I’m not hunched over a lab bench or keyboard, I enjoy spending hours romping around outdoors or my eyes latched to the pages of a good book. Like a true biologist at heart, my love of the natural world extends into my home as a sizeable collection of orchids and a spoiled cat. I often stop to admire a peculiar flower or help a meandering caterpillar off the side of the road. If it metabolizes, I want to know about it. And I probably want to tell you about it too!
